Trends From Sex and the City

The Sex and the City movie came out a month or so ago but we are seeing the trends from it influencing street fashion. This is particularly true of sunglasses. Inspired by flashy 1970s aviator skiing glasses you see Jessica Sarah Parker wearing MYKITA & Bernhard Willhelm gold aviators. These glasses come in pinks, blues and golds!

The fashion illustrated in Sex and the City is actually surprisingly affordable. It is mostly shoes and sundresses and loose bags. The designer versions worn in the movie are easily accessible in stores.

The hair in that movie was very seventies. The big look sported by Carrie Bradshow was sexy, polished waves. The Carrie look for the hair was very loose and carefree.

Charlotte’s hair, by contrast was also loose and polished but it also had a touch of old Hollywood glamour. This look is best achieved using Velcro rollers or smoothing big sections of the hair with a curling iron.

Samantha’s hair in the movie is also very Hollywood. It also is created with hot rollers, even when it is tied up in a chignon.

The short bob never sees to go out of style and that is what is seen on Miranda. The difference is that there is a shine called the “ribbon effect” created by the use of a flat iron. The whole do is then made shiny with use of a gloss or a mist.

Another look inspired by this movie is the plaid shirt. Especially fashionable is the plaid shirt that has a lining on the outside and the inside created from different patterns.

There is a touch of the eighties prevalent in the movie was well. You see this trend in the cuff bracelets that girls are wearing. They tend to have snap clasps and be riddled with big fake jewels, buttons and pearls. We have not seen this luxurious overdone look in a jeweler for a very long time.

Yet another seventies trend is the suede pump. You do not see that trend so much in the summer sandal as you do in more formal wear.

You see clogs in this movie but stilettos are much more prevalent, especially on Sarah Jessica Parker who wears them with flea market finds.
Charlotte has a preppy style that is always accompanied by the proper bag and shoes. Bows, cute prints and feminine styles play up the kind nature of her character.

Other Sex and the City trends include “initial necklaces” and flower pins with big fake stones in them
