How to Store Expensive Christmas Ornaments

Anyone who has broken a favorite Christmas ornament knows how important it is to pack them up properly so that they don’t get shattered, squashed or chipped. Another benefit to packing away your Christmas decorations properly is that it becomes less of a pain to unpack everything if it is well organized.
Don’t even think of packing a Christmas ornament away without wrapping it in tissue or bubble pack first. You can buy tissue paper at packing supply stores or you can use discarded decorative tissue paper that has been salvaged from the unwrapping of the presents on Christmas morning.
It is also a good idea to use sturdy cardboard boxes, durable see-through plastic boxes or boxes that are especially designed to hold a Christmas ornament to store decorations in. A plastic see-through box is a great idea because you can see through it to see which Christmas ornament you would like to select. Another idea is to save the original box that the Christmas ornament came in and use that for storage. Sturdy shoe boxes or other small containers with thick cardboard will also do.
Make sure that edible or candy ornaments are tightly sealed in something like a Tupperware bowl so that the bugs and mold can’t get them. The same is true of any Christmas wreathes that you own that are made of dried fruit, shortbread or anything else that can decay or be consumed by vermin or bugs.
The best way to pack your Christmas ornament storage boxes is to organize things so that things that belong together stay together before you start packing. Put all the Christmas lights in a one box, all tinsel in a box designated for tinsel box and Christmas ornaments in another. A rule of thumb is to place the heavier ornaments in the bottom of boxes and the delicate ones on the top. Make sure you sort your ornaments by weight, size and delicacy before packing them away. Staying organized like this as you pack and unpack decorations can help prevent the loss of Christmas ornaments that might be precious family heirlooms so you can enjoy them for years to come. Keeping everything in its place like this also makes decorating the tree next year a much easier task as you won’t be spending ages on such chores as unsnarling Christmas lights or looking for hooks to match certain glass bulbs.
After you are done packing your Christmas ornament storage containers make sure you label them carefully on the outside on each box (especially if they are cardboard boxes.) Then place the Christmas ornament storage boxes in a place where they cannot be accidentally knocked over or tripped over thus causing their nostalgic contents to break.
