Dressing Your Baby for Winter
So you thought you had it all figured out for your baby’s wardrobe? Sure, around the house you’ve got it all covered, from sleep clothing to walk-around clothing to meal add-ons, along with sturdy footwear for the special moments when the child begins to walk. You have all the necessary outfits to slap on when it’s time for a walk in the stroller. But have you considered weather patterns? Sooner or later it will be time to dress your baby for winter. And for that planning you should know a few things in advance to make certain it’s warm and snug trip for your baby from start to finish. So when is it too warm? When is it not enough and when is it too cold? And when do we have JUST the right combination of clothing needs for the winter air? Time to learn the basics to keep in mind when that cold snap hits.
Well, we can start and end on the same principle. Think of what you do when you’re about to go out into the cold. You check the temperature on the radio of television or the Net and you try to look ahead for possible changes (this is especially important to remember if you live in a wildly fluctuating weather zone, as exists in Colorado or parts of western Canada). Then you dress accordingly. Well, this really is all you need to know. You MUST dress your child according to how you have decided to dress yourself. Straight up and straightforward, this is how you should start.
The most common mistake made by new parents is over-exertion in a variety of areas when it comes to taking care of the child, which comes from over-fretting about all exigencies and pitfalls of parenting. And a big example is over-dressing the baby for winter. If you’re heading out and the child is wearing two or three more layers than you, don’t be surprised when the fussing sets in and remember it’s not your car engine that’s overheating.
If you’re traveling in the car through snow, a good thing to keep in mind is that perhaps you dressed down a bit because you know you’re not going to be in the cold for long before you’re in a warm car. Good, then dress the child down as well. If you’re really worried about it, bring along extra clothing but don’t use it just yet. Wait until you get a clear signal that it’s too cold, and then everybody’s fine.
