About Artificial Christmas Trees

The first artificial Christmas tree was not made out of very glamorous material. A company that manufactured brushes made it and the tree branches were created from pig bristles. This is a far cry from the plastic, tinsel and PVC needles that help create the glittering and festive look of the modern artificial Christmas tree. In fact the artificial Christmas tree is made out of so many different materials today that it is essential for you to read the description of the fake tree that you are ordering from a store or catalogue very thoroughly so that you know exactly what you are paying for.
The materials that an artificial Christmas tree is made of also might be an issue when it comes to safety. For instance if you have pets or tots in the house stay away from artificial plastic trees that have plastic needles. They are easily pulled off the tree by children or animals and swallowed. The type of artificial Christmas tree that has ornaments that are fixed onto the branches so that pets and toddlers cannot pull them off is a good investment if you want a child-proofed mass. You can also buy a prelist artificial tree, which saves innocent creatures from being snarled up or tangled in wires or touching hot bulbs.
The pre lit artificial Christmas tree first hit the holiday season market in the latter part of the 1970s. The earlier versions of pre lit Christmas trees often came with a light in the base and a rotating color wheel that caused various colors of light to dance across the branches of the tree. If you like the retro look of a seventies artificial tree you can still find this type of artificial model on auction sites. The modern pre lit artificial Christmas tree is a lot steadier and features glowing fiber optics lighting up the tips of its branches. The more fiber optics that a Christmas tree has, the more expensive it will be. Artificial Christmas trees with light bulb type fixtures on its branches tend to be cheaper than the glitzy fiber optic Christmas trees.
Very much in style lately is the white artificial Christmas tree. Decidedly 70s vintage in style these types of trees are available with glowing white fiber optic tips or pre-decorated with Christmas bulbs in various color themes such as red and white or gold and silver. Solid silver or gold tinsel trees, protected by fire retardant coatings are also back in style.
The tie to buy a mail order Christmas tree is roughly four to six weeks before the Christmas season actually arrives. This is because the stock of prelit artificial Christmas trees often disappears quickly from the stock of the more reputable online Christmas tree supply stores.

Trendy Corporate Gift Baskets

The best corporate Christmas gift idea has got to be the gift basket. The gift basket can hold “something for everyone” if you are sending it to an office full of employees. If you are sending this corporate Christmas gift idea to one individual a gift basket also allows you to hedge your bets. If the person doesn’t like one thing in the gift basket he or she will certainly like another item that you have sent.
Another reason why gift baskets make such a great corporate Christmas gift idea is that they are widely available. There is a massive selection of business and corporate Christmas gift baskets on the market to suit every type of taste.
A simple and often most appreciated corporate Christmas gift idea is one filled with gourmet food. The classic contents of this kind of basket usually include an assortment of crackers, candies, cookies, chocolates, cheese and jams. More adventurous types might want to include a selection of spicy sauces or gourmet brand salsas and dips.
Another great corporate Christmas gift idea is to fill a gift basket with a selection of teas, coffees and gourmet sugars. Cookies, scones, biscotti and other coffee-break delights can round out the edible offerings in the basket. If the basket is for one or just a couple of people you can also send coffee mugs that are branded with your business name along with the delights.
If the person you are trying to impress with your corporate Christmas gift idea loves wine, you can make a great impression by sending a basket filled with an expensive bottle of wine or two, some wine glasses as well as a wheel of cheese with crackers. You can also make this basket more practical and include wine preservers, chiller bags, wine glass marker jewelry and a good book on wine.
Another fantastic idea for a gift basket would be one filled with books and magazines that are related to the person’s business or that have something to do with your business relationship with each other. A cozy throw and a gourmet tin of cocoa could also be added to this type of basket.
If you want to be a bit tacky but still really push your business and its name, one corporate Christmas gift idea is to remake all of the labels on the food or wine in your basket so that they include the name of your business. Some marketing researchers would say that this is a good idea and yet some others would say that the best corporate Christmas gift idea is the one that is more personal in nature as it creates a one on one connection with your client and employees that makes them feel good whenever they think of you.

How to Store Expensive Christmas Ornaments

Anyone who has broken a favorite Christmas ornament knows how important it is to pack them up properly so that they don’t get shattered, squashed or chipped. Another benefit to packing away your Christmas decorations properly is that it becomes less of a pain to unpack everything if it is well organized.
Don’t even think of packing a Christmas ornament away without wrapping it in tissue or bubble pack first. You can buy tissue paper at packing supply stores or you can use discarded decorative tissue paper that has been salvaged from the unwrapping of the presents on Christmas morning.
It is also a good idea to use sturdy cardboard boxes, durable see-through plastic boxes or boxes that are especially designed to hold a Christmas ornament to store decorations in. A plastic see-through box is a great idea because you can see through it to see which Christmas ornament you would like to select. Another idea is to save the original box that the Christmas ornament came in and use that for storage. Sturdy shoe boxes or other small containers with thick cardboard will also do.
Make sure that edible or candy ornaments are tightly sealed in something like a Tupperware bowl so that the bugs and mold can’t get them. The same is true of any Christmas wreathes that you own that are made of dried fruit, shortbread or anything else that can decay or be consumed by vermin or bugs.
The best way to pack your Christmas ornament storage boxes is to organize things so that things that belong together stay together before you start packing. Put all the Christmas lights in a one box, all tinsel in a box designated for tinsel box and Christmas ornaments in another. A rule of thumb is to place the heavier ornaments in the bottom of boxes and the delicate ones on the top. Make sure you sort your ornaments by weight, size and delicacy before packing them away. Staying organized like this as you pack and unpack decorations can help prevent the loss of Christmas ornaments that might be precious family heirlooms so you can enjoy them for years to come. Keeping everything in its place like this also makes decorating the tree next year a much easier task as you won’t be spending ages on such chores as unsnarling Christmas lights or looking for hooks to match certain glass bulbs.
After you are done packing your Christmas ornament storage containers make sure you label them carefully on the outside on each box (especially if they are cardboard boxes.) Then place the Christmas ornament storage boxes in a place where they cannot be accidentally knocked over or tripped over thus causing their nostalgic contents to break.

Try baking your own shortbread cookies, decorating them with colored icing and decorative silver balls and stringing them on shiny ribbon or fish line. One good shortbread recipe can provide you with scores of cheap and creative looking cookie Christmas tree decorations. You can cut the shapes of common Christmas motifs out of dough with a knife or you can buy shapes like Christmas trees, Christmas balls, snowmen and angels as cookie cutters from a store. Perhaps the easiest shape to make out of shortbread is the Christmas ball. Simply cut the ball shape out of the dough with the rim of a glass and lavishly decorate it with candy glitter.
You can also make your own Christmas tree garlands. This is one of those ancient Christmas crafts that can be a group activity for you and your family. Simply stringing popcorn on a string makes very attractive garlands. You can also try stringing nuts or cranberries for an unusual effect. Garlands can also be made out of gold or aluminum foil that is cut up and twisted in loops that hook into each other.

If you are really ambitious you can also try making your own Christmas candles. One of the simplest ways is to buy sheets of beeswax and then roll them up to create unique one of a kind candle centerpieces. You can also melt wax in a double boiler and make your own candles. Recession Gift Ideas

Gone are the days when the best Christmas gift ideas were supposed to be the most expensive ones. In these recession days it is almost embarrassing to give a gift that is really lavish. This is especially true seeing as there are so many starving people in the world. Many people are on a budget and remember that the gift that counts the most is the one that is from the heart.
Some of the most appreciated Christmas gift ideas are those that are handmade. Rather than spend a lot of money on an item of clothing for a loved one try knitting one instead. Vintage and second hand stores also sell items of clothing quite cheaply. You can also find one of a kind jewelry and all sorts of interesting items such as antique glassware and knick-knacks at a second hand or charity run store.
Yet another good source for very cheap Christmas gift ideas is the dollar store. One idea is to buy a bag and then fill it with interesting dollar store items such as pocket magnifying glasses, fridge magnets, nail polish, a coffee mug, a toy and other goodies. So for instance if you have five dollars you can still buy five items and put it in a decorative bag. You can also do the same on a more expensive scale at the drug store. The key to putting these gift bags together is to have a theme such as – business, beauty or bath time. By the way another cheap source of interesting knick-knacks is in your local Chinatown.
You have probably seen those gift baskets in stores that cost hundreds of bucks. The truth is you can make your own. All you need is a cheap wicker basket that you buy a dollar store. You can even use a fruit basket that you get an ordinary store or a plastic basket from the dollar store. Your next step is to decorate this basket with some ribbon and make a nest at the bottom of it with some tinsel. You can then fill it with whatever you like – jams, crackers, cheese, a bottle of wine and even a couple of wine glasses you got at the dollar store.
Perhaps one of the most inexpensive gifts is simply to make Christmas cookies or a Christmas cake and wrap them up in a decorative tin or box. You don’t even have to spend a lot of money on a box. You can simply take an old shoe box and wrap it in decorative paper and then put the cookies in wax paper inside. To finish the whole thing off all you need to do is finish it all off with a great big shiny bow.

Making Your Own Christmas Wreath

Making your own Christmas wreath is absurdly simple. There are a couple of ways to do it.
The first way to make your own Christmas wreath is without an armature. This means going outside and collecting your own branches from a pine, spruce or other type of evergreen tree. Collect some pine cones while you are at it. Just remember not to hurt any trees that you may be stripping of branches.
Once you have found the boughs that you want to use to create your own Christmas wreath all you need is some heavy duty wire. Bend the boughs into a circular shape and attach them in place with the wire. Affix some pine cones to the boughs with wire as well as some shiny red and green ribbons and you will have created the simplest wreath possible. Keep in mind too that you can also string this type of wreath with battery operated xmas lights to give it more panache.
The second way to make a Christmas wreath is to buy a Styrofoam armature at a crafts store or from a popular giant retail chain like Walmart or Zellers. You can then glue or pin any type of object that you want to these circular shapes to make your own wreath.
An easy wreathe to make is one made out of shiny Christmas balls. All you need to do in this case is buy some inexpensive glass balls and then pin them to the armature in a circle. The entire thing can be finished off with a bright big bow at the top.
One of the most popular homemade Christmas wreath ideas is the wreath made out of candy canes. All you need is tiny candy canes that you can pin, tape or glue to the armature to makes a sunburst shape. Another snowy looking wreath to make is one made out of popcorn. These look great decorated with green or red bows and placed against a darker colored or wooden front door.
A good example of an easy and clever Christmas wreath to make is the one made by Martha Stewart that was constructed entirely out of gum drops. She simply pushed pins through gumdrops and then pushed them into the armature. The frost on the gum drops made the homemade Christmas wreath look as if it was frosted with snow.
A picture frame hook can be used to help hang any type of wreathe on the front door or a mantelpiece. Another option is to simply hang it on a nail and attach it with wire or looped fishing line. They can also be laid flat on a table with a candle placed in the center to create an attractive holiday centerpiece.

Creating Great Christmas Baskets

If you have tried to order Christmas gift baskets online you have probably noticed that quite a few of the really thoughtfully put together ones are incredibly expensive. The thing to do is to make up your own Christmas gift baskets. This is easily done by deciding on a theme for the basket and then buying the items to go inside it. You can buy Christmas gift baskets very cheaply at your local Chinatown or in large retail outlets such as Walmart or Zellers. You can also buy them in bulk online and at wholesale outlets. Another option is to save any type of basket that you buy fruit in and providing it is in good enough shape, spray paint it or clean it so that it is decent enough to use as a receptacle for your gifts. You can then embellish it with a nest of tinsel, wrapping paper, ribbons and bows.
The easiest types of Christmas gift baskets to put together are around food. However to be elegant like the Christmas gift baskets that you order online or in a specialty store, they must have some kind of theme to them. Common types of food baskets that you can put together can be a gourmet cheese, cracker and wine basket; a gourmet coffee, coffee flavorings and coffee mugs basket; or a fancy olive oil, sundried tomato and specialty pasta basket. As you can see the more the food stuffs in the basket has in common the more thoughtful the gift themes.
Christmas gift baskets that are made up of various bath products are also a welcome present. You could theme these as well. For instance if you chose a Hawaiian theme you could have pineapple soap, coconut shampoo and orchid body spray all in the same basket (with a real pineapple too if you want!) A selection of bath bombs or bath salts is also a good theme for a spa oriented type basket. Another cosmetic inspired type basket would be one filled with nail polishes, lipsticks, and beauty tools.
You can also make up Christmas gift baskets around people’s hobbies. For instance a person who loves horses might appreciate some DVDs with great movies about horses, a book or two about horses plus a lucky horseshoe keychain and a coffee mug with a picture of a horse in it. A person who likes ice-skating might appreciate a pretty pair of gloves, replacement shoelaces for skates and a can of exotic flavored cocoa for hot chocolate. If you are invited to Christmas Dinner somewhere the host or hostess might appreciate a gift basket filled with homemade shortbread, chocolates, a Christmas decoration and a bottle of good brandy for after dessert.

Getting Organized For Xmas Shopping

Christmas shopping is much less of a chore if you are more organized. Going to the trouble of making a list and checking it twice before you hit the stores can save you a lot of headaches, confusion and panic at the last minute.
Making a list for your Christmas shopping should not be that difficult. You can do it on paper or on your computer and then print the Christmas shopping list out later for reference. The important thing to remember is to take the list with you and try to stick to it if you can! More Christmas shopping plans were ruined than not by people who started straying from their list and then ended up buying much more expensive gifts then they intended to by giving into an impulse.
You should have the list organized so that it compartmentalizes all of the different types of people that you might give a Christmas gift in your life. Suggested categories are “gifts for immediate family”, “gifts for relatives at a distance”, “gifts for friends’, “gifts for coworkers”, “gifts for pets”, “gifts for clients” and so on. Of course once you have done this your next step is to immediately figure out a timeline for whom you need to shop for first. For instance gifts that you have to send a great distance might have to be shopped for earlier then the gifts that will be received by people you see every day. You might also have to shop for gifts for coworkers earlier than family members or friends as you are likely to be invited to an office party or get off work for the holidays before the actual official gift giving day of the 25th.
Yet another suggestion is to create a budget for your Christmas shopping and then try to stick to it. Not having a list is what makes people go over budget. Another thing that makes people spend to much money on Christmas shopping is leaving it all to the last minute. If you leave everything until the last day you end up paying a lot more for every aspect of the Christmas shopping process including how much you have to pay for gas, parking and a more expensive gift because they are out of the one you wanted to buy in the first place.

One fantastic way to get all of your Christmas shopping done at once is to visit the Oxfam and World Vision sites and buy something for people less fortunate in the name of the person you want to give top. This is especially good for older people such as coworkers and relatives who already feel they have what they need in life, is to buy a goat, chicken, cow, school supplies or even a full well with water at a charity such as World Vision. Not only are these gifts reasonably priced but they require little organization on your part and do you and your friends and relatives a lot of good spiritually.

Dressing Your Baby for Winter

So you thought you had it all figured out for your baby’s wardrobe? Sure, around the house you’ve got it all covered, from sleep clothing to walk-around clothing to meal add-ons, along with sturdy footwear for the special moments when the child begins to walk. You have all the necessary outfits to slap on when it’s time for a walk in the stroller. But have you considered weather patterns? Sooner or later it will be time to dress your baby for winter. And for that planning you should know a few things in advance to make certain it’s warm and snug trip for your baby from start to finish. So when is it too warm? When is it not enough and when is it too cold? And when do we have JUST the right combination of clothing needs for the winter air? Time to learn the basics to keep in mind when that cold snap hits.
Well, we can start and end on the same principle. Think of what you do when you’re about to go out into the cold. You check the temperature on the radio of television or the Net and you try to look ahead for possible changes (this is especially important to remember if you live in a wildly fluctuating weather zone, as exists in Colorado or parts of western Canada). Then you dress accordingly. Well, this really is all you need to know. You MUST dress your child according to how you have decided to dress yourself. Straight up and straightforward, this is how you should start.
The most common mistake made by new parents is over-exertion in a variety of areas when it comes to taking care of the child, which comes from over-fretting about all exigencies and pitfalls of parenting. And a big example is over-dressing the baby for winter. If you’re heading out and the child is wearing two or three more layers than you, don’t be surprised when the fussing sets in and remember it’s not your car engine that’s overheating.
If you’re traveling in the car through snow, a good thing to keep in mind is that perhaps you dressed down a bit because you know you’re not going to be in the cold for long before you’re in a warm car. Good, then dress the child down as well. If you’re really worried about it, bring along extra clothing but don’t use it just yet. Wait until you get a clear signal that it’s too cold, and then everybody’s fine.

Ideas for Christmas Decorating

Here are some of the newest and trendiest ideas when it comes to Christmas decorating –
Consider getting an upside down tree rather than one that is upright. These types of trees are available widely in their artificial versions and take after an ancient pagan tradition where the trees were nailed to the ceiling and upside down. You could do this with a natural tree but you might want to make sure that you do not ruin your ceiling by doing so and that the tree is not so dry that it showers needles down on your heads. Another challenge is of course to hang the tree so that it is not in the way of anything (especially people’s heads.)
Yet another trend in Christmas decorating is not to use glass balls on the trees but to instead stick to tying ribbons to the tree instead. Unusual non-traditional colored ribbons are very much in style, especially if they are themed in just two colors such as burgundy and gold or pink and yellow. However the old fashioned green and red ribbons will never go out of fashion. As a compromise you might want to consider using plaid green and red ribbons instead. Some people are utilizing the ribbon trend by replacing the fish line that is normally used to hang the Christmas glass balls with shiny or velvet ribbons.
Putting something other than a star at the top of a Christmas tree is also a big trend in Christmas decorating with many people putting angels, Barbie dolls, flower bouquets and family portraits at the top instead.
Another trend in Christmas decorating is to make the tree look a simple and natural as possible. This means dispensing with loads of tinsel or spray on snow and instead opting to leave the tree a little barer looking. This type of tree can be decorated with fruit, nuts, cookies and garlands of cranberries and popcorn strung together.

Another trend when it comes to Christmas decorating is for the artificial white tree. This is a bit of a throwback to the seventies. The taller your white artificial prelit xmas tree is the better and if it is hanging upside down on your ceiling that is all the better!
Christmas decorating doesn’t have to keep you in debt until next fall. There are plenty of online discount sources for Christmas decorations as well as many deals to be had simply by shopping in a dollar store offline.
