The Geometric Wedding Look for Spring

Geometric fashion styles are in shape for Spring and this includes wedding gowns. There are many designers that are hot on this trend but the designer that is mainly known for adopting this line and cut is Angel Sanchez.  We have already seen this trend with boots which have had square toes and also in the fad for tip jar type platform shoes.  Oversized square or circular jewelry is also very much a part of this trend.

These gowns are often cut straight across on the bodice which gives the gown a long rectangular shape when you view the gowned woman from a distance. The look is absolutely plain with no flounces, gathering or billowing details. Every detail on the dress is geometric in some way. There may be circular or triangular cut outs or insets in the gown. The simply cut cross shouldered gown or the gown held up with a large circlet of faux metal is also very typical of this look.  The geometric look can also be emphasized by chains that hold up the straps of the dress.

Shoulder straps can be triangular or even circular and so can any fastenings on the dress. Even the hem of the dress can be cut in triangular swaths that hang from the waist.  The effect is very columnar and very Greek Goddess compared to what we have seen in wedding dress designs over the past few years. As there is no draping or rippling it is also very sixties looking – like something Jackie Kennedy would wear to a ball.

Yet another signature of this type of contemporary approach to wedding gown design is the vivid colors such as canary yellow, bright fuchsia or bright lime green. The colors are very seventies and the effect is a bit of a neo-Italian modern. Once again — this type of look really does hail back to the sixties and early seventies.  The hippest wedding dress looks like something out of a Brady Bunch episode – like something Marcia Brady would wear out on a date.

There is a trend in wedding gowns for this summer that favors wearing youthful looking sporty wedding gowns. They do look best on younger people although these gowns are definitely going to appeal to the bride of any age that wants to stay cool during a hot wedding ceremony. Some of them are so sporty looking that you could wear running shoes with them. Scalloped hems and dual tone sweetheart necklines also define this look.

If the weather is going to be steamy or if you are getting married on a Caribbean Island these shorter sportier gowns are definitely a good choice.  They also look good with a pair of glittery or sequined thongs.
