Fashionable Wedding Cakes

Fashion is never fiercer than when it comes to weddings. It is not just restricted to clothing. Your wedding cake must match what you are wearing as well. The Parisian black and white wedding came was incredibly popular in 2007 and 2009 and the same same theme is going to reign throughout 2009. We are referring to the famous black or white fondants that are set with filigree designs to make a cake reminiscent of the twenties or seventies. Some of these black and white cakes look more like tuxes. They may be tufted with fake black or white buttons and you even see the black and white patterns in plaid and lattice styles when it comes to the design of the icing. However it is the fake black lace style of wedding cake icing that is really impressive. These decorative motifs are pulled right from the fashion runways. A nice touch is to have your dress and bridesmaid dresses done up in this theme of Parisian black and white as well. One twist on these them for 2009 is that brown icing might be the new black when it comes to the Parisian style of wedding cake. White fondant icing topped with dark brown icing is one way to give a nod to the Parisian way of life while at the same time giving your sweet tooth that taste for caramel or dark chocolate. You can get ideas for these cakes by looking at chic designs for black and white wall paper from the seventies which usually feature large simplified flowers. New for 2009 is turquoise or aqua collared cake that is meant to go with all the sea foam collared bridal gowns that are likely to be in the stores this spring and summer wedding season as well. Bright blues and greens are really going to be popular colors of icing. Silver, white, light grey and lilac make beautiful complimentary decorations or icing writing for this type of cake. The lighter the icing the more girly the cake is going to look in general. Baby pink also looks nice alternated with maternity green colors of fondant if you are looking for a hip confection that has that vintage flair. Just because your cake I has to taste strongly like food coloring? Not if you are dealing with an expert chef. A good chef can make blue icing out of blueberries. One way to make a great tasting green icing is to use green crème de menthe. Chocolate cake and mousse fillings go great with a crème de menthe icing. The green or aqua collared cake also goes well with Caribbean themed wedding of some sort or any wedding that takes place near a beach.

Wedding Dress Trends for 2009

Last Fall and Spring we were given a taste of what the wedding dress trends might be for the 2009, There were several influences on wedding garments that were of note that gave us a hint of the type of thing we are going to see floating down the aisle on happy brides – most notably these were the embroidery tern, the empire waist, the colors pink and blue, the mini dress and the bandeaux style bodice.
For one thing embroidery on dresses is going to be a hot as it originally was in the seventies. Flower embroidery in contrasting thread colors on the classic white gown includes burgundy, black, navy and dark green. These go best on Victorian designs but you are going to see this type of festive touch on muslin and peasant style gowns as well.
The Empire Waist Goddess Gown is also going to be stylish, particularly in the more unusual colors like deep purple, gold or light pink. These gowns are particularly flattering for women that are statuesque and want to look like a Goddess come to life walking down the aisle.
Pink and blue dresses are also hot for this season, especially dresses that have both hues in one dress design. The entire dress that is blue is very reminiscent of the sixties wedding and even your shoes and hat are blue. The all pink dress however is very classic and more sixties. You have to be pretty girly to wear only pink at your wedding.
For those brides with great legs you will also be happy to know that miniskirts are also still very much in vogue. Think again about Mia Farrow and the lace number that she wore when she got hitched to Frank Sinatra in the sixties. For a high end wedding dress like this try shopping for the ones at Oscar De La Renta. This designer was, in fact, one of the first to design this type of dress in the first place.
The bandeaux dress has been seen as a bridal offering but in most of the designs walking down the runways the bandeaux is only in the bodice of the dress. The skirt may fall from a drop bandeaux style waist that hugs the bride’s curve or it may simply cut into a full skirt at the waist. The designer Zac Posen also makes a fantastic bandeax style dress as well.
