Celebrities to Imitate This Season
According to Style Magazine you can never go wrong dressing like your favorite celebrity icon.
A celebrity icon who is fashionable this fall is Bianca Jagger. She was famous for wearing a tube shaped black mini skirt with a strapless peplum top that has a flare at the bottom. Striped tops, especially black and white ones stippled with sequins are very much a Bianca Jagger type signature look.
Another look is the patrician look boasted by Charlotte Rampling in her movies in the seventies. This was a checkered jacket with wide lapels and patch pockets. Vests, plaid button down vests and long pants also fit the bill. This look is capped off with a saucy red beret and a generous array of ringlets.
Silk brocades decorated with masses of flowers is also a big trend. Think of the loud Chinese silk dresses that used to be worn by poor little rich girl Gloria Vanderbilt in the seventies. Choose a mandarin style short dress and top off the look by wearing white or black suede or leather gloves.
It is also fashionable to go way back in time to the era of Greta Garbo when three quarter sleeves, fabric belts with big buckles and cowl necks were in style. It is in the name of this famous silent film style that you will see some devotees of fashion wearing turbans this fall as well. These turbans fit very close to the head and are sometimes embellished with a single large brooch.
We also owe a second popular trend to Garbo’s elegant ways this fall as well. This would be the long floor length coat, or what used to be simply be called a maxi coat in the seventies. Wide leg pants are also another Garbo trend. This style is going to be very popular in grey this fall.
The eighties era Queen of Fashion was Paloma Picasso who wore long flowing garments. The pants were baggie and the tops were skimpy. Sometimes she also wore a long flowing cape to complete the look. Of course this fashion look is also not complete without long talon like nails and gold jewelery to go with it.
Jane Birken was a bit of a flower child, but a mournful looking one in the eighties. Her look was dramatic but also very minimalist at the same time. She word long black flowing dresses that look like they would flatter Emily Bronte. A cool variation of this look is a black top with leather leggings. Black tights worn with black patent leather or black velveteen high heel shoes are also going to be in vogue as are Mary Jane style shoes worn with black knee high socks. Dresses tend to have delicate curves that show a bit of bosom. Another signature of the Jane Birken style is the little ribbon tie with a keyhole cut out near the breasts.
